About

Experience

The work you will find here represents the culmination of skills I have learned from time spent in various places of employment and five years of higher education (which resulted in a B.A. (Hons) in Design Crafts). Also, some techniques that I have discovered and studied through personal interest. It has always been my opinion that an artist should strive to better themselves at every available opportunity. This is why, when left to my own devices, I will always design a piece which is above my skill set and then raise my skill set to meet the challenge.

Personal Interests

My work is driven by escapism, intrigue and the mysterious. I draw a lot of inspiration from the myths and legends that surround the world of magical creatures. I find stories of the mysterious and unexplained fascinating and I am especially intrigued by any tales that pertain to such things as Vampires, Werewolves, Trolls, Faeries and so on and so forth. It is these myths and legends that have driven me to create a world of my own, and it is from this world that many of the items you will see in these pages have sprung. Although my work comes from the realms of the fantastic, I pride myself on creating pieces that are believable, functional and in some small way based in reality. The thought that the spell may be broken by picking up and manipulating one of my pieces only to find that it doesn’t feel right in the hand, or that it would not perform the task for which it was created, is abhorrent to me. Craftsmanship is very important. Most of the work that goes into one of my pieces may never be seen but without it, the piece would not be whole. It would be hollow, a mere shell of its full potential. I hope this gives some insight into my methods and inspirations and I hope you will enjoy looking at my work.

James
